Social Value Update – Support to Haslemere Signal Box Trust

As part of our ongoing commitment to delivering meaningful Social Value within the communities we work in, Sunville Rail, acting as Principal Contractor, volunteered resources recently to support the Haslemere Signal Box Trust.

While local volunteers continue with the painting and restoration of the historic signal box, Sunville Rail has focused on preparing the proposed Memorial Garden area. Our teams have undertaken the initial vegetation and site clearance, enabling safe access and establishing a defined working area for the next stages of development.

In addition, Sunville Rail will be removing redundant signalling cables that were decommissioned following the recent F2P commissioning works. This activity will help facilitate agreement to progress to the next phase of the Trust’s long‑term vision for a community‑focused heritage space.

This initiative provides both industry suppliers and members of the public with an opportunity to help preserve an important piece of local railway heritage, working in support of the Haslemere Signal Box Trust.

At a time when many rail SMEs are facing major challenges due to the limited and uneven rollout and constrained funding of the current control period, it is encouraging to see companies continuing to give back to the communities in which they have worked previously , regardless of the current climate. 

Sunville Rail remains committed to supporting local initiatives that deliver genuine social, cultural, and environmental value.

The Memorial Garden will honour the memory of the 626 London & South Western Railway staff who lost their lives in the First and Second World Wars, ensuring their contribution is recognised and remembered by future generations.
